Yesterday my roommates and I went to get some pumpkins to carve for Halloween next week. We went to a place in Woodbine, MD called Larriland Farms. We each got a pumpkin, got one for Kristyn, who was in NY this weekend and took some pictures. Great day :)
So this weekend I decided to accomplish another goal on my bucket list; to go see the Bridge Day Festival in Fayetteville, West Virginia at the New River Gorge Bridge which is the largest steel suspension bridge in the country. It was the biggest in the world until Japan made the largest. Oh well. But this festival was awesome! It would've been cooler if I had friends come with me but all mine were busy this Saturday so I went alone.
There were food stands everywhere! And the food was amazing. At least it smelled amazing. There were ribs and chili every 10 feet. They even had frozen, dipped in chocolate cheesecake on a stick. Now I truly understand why so many people in West Virginia are overweight. There was also free face painting with a Bible story. Lord haha...literally.
The best part of the festival though were the base jumpers. For all of you that don't know what base jumping is its when people jump off bridges with nothing but a parachute and after a few seconds of free falling they pull the parachute. It has to be the most incredible feeling ever. That's something I want to do someday. But over 100 people came to base jump at this festival. I was in complete awe. Two lanes of the road on the bridge were closed for people and the base jumpers. The other two lanes were for buses transporting the jumpers to the jumping platform. It was so much fun though. And everyone in West Virginia are so nice.
I really want to live out there one day. I don't know why for sure but I like the idea of having a lot of land and building my future house on it. I like the idea of being able to see my neighbors house in the distance but not being too close. I love the landscape out there and the fact that you can drive 70 mph on their highways. The only bad thing Rob pointed out was their school system sucks. But I'm sure there has to be a good school in the area. When I go land hunting I'll make sure to consider the school district. Other than that...it's perfect!
So Friday night October 8th, my two roomies and I met with my ex-boyfriend to go to Field of Dreams in Olney, Maryland. This is my second time going to this and I have to say I was even more scared than the first if thats possible. First of all, you have to sign a waver before going in. That's when you know it is going to petrify you. And I am a big baby. I am literally frightened of anything scary so this was very hard for me. Its a bit pricy $20 to do the haunted trail but totally worth every penny. What the haunted trail is is a 25-30 minute walk through the woods with periodical stops in these wooden huts that had really scary shit in them.
Probably the best part of this trip was my roommates and my reaction to everything. My tactic is to scream bloody murder, Kristyn likes to duck and run, and Allie freezes. Not a very good combination but hysterical all the same. Rob (my ex) isn't scared of much so most of the time he laughed. The only thing he got scared of was the two chainsaw men chasing us through the woods. But I mean come on, who isn't programmed to run like hell if a chainsaw is coming at you?
So my roommates and I decided we are going to try a different countries food once a month (maybe less depending on budgets and free time). This past Thursday Oct 7th we went for Indian. Two out of my 3 roommates had tried India before but Kristyn and I were newbies. We went to a restaurant in Dupont Circle in Washington DC (since that’s where I live) called Heritage India. It was so much fun! We each got two tapas (spanish i know…a bit confused at first) and then split them in fours so we could try everything. Such a good idea! That way we got to try so many different plates for under $30 bucks. Being college graduate students we are on a strict budget. We also had a bottle of wine and they surprisingly had nothing from India. Now I don’t know if India produces wine but I figured they might have one wine on the menu from India. We were mistaken so we stuck to Italian wine because you can’t really go wrong. Afterwards we had our picture taken with the Buddha and got Krispy Kreme for dessert. Always a good way to end the evening.
I would definitely have Indian food again. Some could be a bit spicy but definitely not overwhelming. I would also definitely recommend Heritage India. Really great service and a very cool environment, but I would expect nothing less from Dupont.
